Reaching out to the Community

Eco-School introduction at the Monninger School Complex June 16th 2014.

Eco-Schools developed as a response to needs identified at the United Nations (UN) Conference on Environment and Development held in Rio in 1992. It was particularly two chapters in the Action plan signed in Rio that inspired the funding of Eco-Schools; chapter 21 on local communities and chapter 36 on education, training and awareness on sustainability. It is still a precondition to have the support of the local community to succeed as an Eco-School. This week the Eco-School committee of Akosombo International School will be out on a mission to inform and recruit other schools in the district to join the program. Eco-School coordinator Mrs Margareth Ayernor introduces the program at the morning assembly.

Students and staff at Monninger School Complex listened patiently to the information given, and were excited to hear about the international reach of the various projects. The next step will be to have the school sign up to meet the measures to be Green Flag certified.
